The Modern Japan History Association Book Prize

The Modern Japan History Association awards an annual book prize to an outstanding book published in the preceding calendar year on modern Japan or Japanese history. Full consideration is given to any scholarly monograph substantially addressing modern Japan and/or its empire (1868-present), regardless of academic discipline, and/or Japanese history, regardless of time period.

The F. Hilary Conroy First Book Prize

The Modern Japan History Association awards the annual F. Hilary Conroy First Book Prize to an outstanding book published in the preceding calendar year on modern Japan or Japanese history by a first-time author. Full consideration is given to any scholarly monograph substantially addressing modern Japan and/or its empire (1868-present), regardless of academic discipline, and/or Japanese history, regardless of time period.

The Charlotte J. Conroy Dissertation Prize

The Modern Japan History Association awards the annual Charlotte J. Conroy Dissertation Prize to an outstanding PhD dissertation filed the preceding year on modern Japan or Japanese history. Full consideration is given to any PhD dissertation/thesis substantially addressing modern Japan and/or its empire (1868-present), regardless of academic discipline, and/or Japanese history, regardless of time period.

The Modern Japan History Association is eager to consider awarding additional prizes in the future, subject to the availability of funds and the interests of MJHA members.
