The Modern Japan History Association Book Prize
The Modern Japan History Association awards an annual book prize to an outstanding book published in the preceding calendar year on modern Japan or Japanese history. Full consideration is given to any scholarly monograph substantially addressing modern Japan and/or its empire (1868-present), regardless of academic discipline, and/or Japanese history, regardless of time period.

The Modern Japan History Association awards an annual dissertation prize to an outstanding PhD dissertation filed the preceding year on modern Japan or Japanese history. Full consideration is given to any PhD dissertation/thesis substantially addressing modern Japan and/or its empire (1868-present), regardless of academic discipline, and/or Japanese history, regardless of time period.
