Why Become a Member of MJHA?

MJHA members...

• Receive access to the members-only email list, where members trade research tips, offer up information about archives and sources, announce publications and conferences, and network with other experts on modern Japan and Japanese history
• Receive access to the members-only portion of the MJHA website, where members access members-only features such as a more detailed members database, members-only news and events, association-related elections and polls, and other members-only content
• Have their name listed in the public database of Japan experts available for interviews, invited talks, and consulting opportunities (if desired; public profiles can always be fine-tuned or opted out of entirely in member privacy settings at any time)
• Attend members-only meetups and workshops at AAS, in Japan, and around the world, thereby joining a network of Japan experts and scholars across the globe
• Promote the study of Japan by granting prizes and awards; MJHA members nominate and select the winners of MJHA prizes and awards
• Shape the future of the field of Japanese studies; MJHA is entirely run and supported by members. All events are proposed and carried out by members in consultation with the MJHA board of directors (who are also members!). • Support the MJHA and its programming; your modest annual membership fee (just a few cups of coffee worth!) helps us maintain and grow our website and sponsor our prizes and activities.
